Just a fun fact: the name Grantham, like all the other districts in Century Village East, comes from Saxon roots. It’s named after an old town in Lincolnshire, east-central England. Grantham was even mentioned in the Domesday Book back in 1086, with 183 households recorded. It officially got its royal charter in 1463.

The Grantham E Condominium Association Inc. was officially formed on Wednesday, September 29th, 1976. That same day, the developer Century Village East Inc. appointed three of their employees to serve as Directors for our brand-new Association.

Fast forward two and a half years to March 27, 1979—after an election among five owners, the Grantham E community chose three of them to be our very first official in-house Board of Directors. They were:

• Walter Leonard Schiffman, President, unit 271;
• Julius Antin, Vice-president, unit 165; and
• Elsie Moskowitz, Secretary & Treasurer, unit 258.
