Here’s a fun tidbit: the name Grantham, like all the other districts in Century Village East, has Saxon roots. It’s named after an old town in Lincolnshire, east-central England. Grantham even pops up in the Domesday Book from 1086, listing 183 households. It officially received its royal charter in 1463.

The Grantham E Condominium Association Inc. was officially set up on Wednesday, September 29th, 1976. On that very day, the developer Century Village East Inc. appointed three of their employees to be the first Directors of our brand-new Association.

Jump ahead two and a half years to March 27, 1979—after an election among five owners, the Grantham E community picked three of them to be our very first official in-house Board of Directors. They were:

• Walter Leonard Schiffman, President, unit 271;
• Julius Antin, Vice-president, unit 165; and
• Elsie Moskowitz, Secretary & Treasurer, unit 258.
